New Look for Yamaha Drums Web Site

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Synonymous with quality and durability for 40 years, Yamaha Drums has revamped its Web site with a sleek, modern look. YamahaDrums.com serves as a platform for contests, as well as a portal to access multimedia information about Yamaha Drum products and Yamaha Drum artists.

Washi Drum Set
The stunning limited edition 40th Anniversary Washi Kit depicts scenes from the Genpei War, which threw Japan into tumult from 1180 to 1185.
"It's only fitting that the maker of the world's best drum sets has a world-class Web site," said David Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "The new site symbolizes how we synthesize traditional craftsmanship with modern advances."

The site will serve as a conduit for bi-monthly giveaways beginning in April 2007. Enhanced product information pages for acoustic drums include a guide called "Who's Playin' It?" which lists the drummers who play that particular drum set series and provides a link to their individual artist pages.

Other features to be added include a mini-site introducing Yamaha Artist Services Hollywood, the company's new artist center that houses every drum kit made by Yamaha, a Custom Shop, a snare drum room, a recording studio, a performance space, and a photography studio. The site will post video footage of artist visits to the facility and footage of product demonstrations. Another feature soon to go live is the Drum Configurator, which will help drummers build their virtual dream kits in a 3D model.

Yamaha, the only drum company that makes acoustic and electronic drum sets, is also the only drum company to offer 100-percent wood kits in four different wood shell materials. Skilled drum makers study as apprentices for three years before they are given the title of Yamaha Drums Craftsman.

Over the years, Yamaha has been associated with some of the best drummers to ever pick up a pair of sticks, including Carter Beauford, Matt Cameron, Keith Carlock, Billy Cobham, Anton Fig, Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan, Manu Katche, Russ Kunkel, Shannon Larkin, Paul Leim, Rick Marotta, Russ Miller, John "JR" Robinson, Dave Weckl, and ?uestlove.

Recently, Yamaha Drums introduced several new products to commemorate its special anniversary:
  • The limited edition 40th anniversary Washi drumset is wrapped with washi paper (a type of Japanese paper used in traditional arts) that depicts scenes from the famed Genpei War of 12th century Japan.
  • Two other limited edition anniversary drumsets are Temple Gold and Temple Silver, named after two of Japan's most revered and sacred sites.
  • Taking its name from a helmet worn by samurai warriors with traditional Japanese armor, the Kabuto snare drum consists of a steel shell coated with an eye-catching red lacquered finish.
  • The ornate brass Phoenix snare drum is adorned with the Phoenix logo that decorated early Yamaha organs and is applied to the drum with the same engraving work that is found on Yamaha brass instruments.
