North Carolina's Marching Mountaineers Join the Yamaha Percussion Family

BUENA PARK, Calif. — "North Carolina's Band of Distinction," the Appalachian State University (ASU) Marching Mountaineers, recently purchased a full line of Yamaha Marching percussion equipment. Yamaha's full battery of equipment offered ASU the optimal choice for their needs – instruments that provide superior sound quality and durability on the field.

After arriving from Yamaha's drum factory in Japan, the Mountaineers' new equipment was customized at Drum Foundry in Zeeland, Michigan. The line is finished with a custom Gold Illusion wrap to match Appalachian State University's team colors, and is complemented by black crinkle hardware. The Marching Mountaineers' purchase included 8200 Series Field-Corps Bass Drums and Multi-Toms, as well as MTS snare drums.

The majority of Division I-AA college marching band programs have chosen to "Play Yamaha" marching percussion products. Each year, more and more college bands demand percussion products of a higher quality, and Yamaha is able to offer them the best due to such unique features as the original air-seal system used to manufacture every drum, and an exclusive two-year hoop-to-feet warranty.

Dr. Scott Tobias, director of the ASU Marching Mountaineers, had this to say about Appalachian State's new Yamaha drumline: "Our new drums arrived the day before we left for the 2006 National Championship game. We premiered them at that game, and were very pleased with the depth of the bass drums and the clarity of the snares. The custom finish looked terrific with our uniforms. We could not be happier with our decision to play Yamaha."

The Appalachian State University Marching Mountaineers perform at every home football game and selected away games. Eight weekends of the semester, all 275 members of the Marching Mountaineers perform for over 17,000 fans in Kidd Brewer Stadium. In 2005 and 2006, they performed at the NCAA I-AA National Championship football games, helping Appalachian State win both the 2005 and 2006 Championships.

The ASU Marching Mountaineers are dedicated to supporting their community through exhibition performances at various high school festivals, as well as performing in the annual Boone Christmas Parade. In addition to local performances, the ASU Marching Mountaineers traveled to London, England in 2006 to march in the London New Year's Day Parade.

"To attract top talent and help them grow as musicians, it is important to have quality instruments to play," notes Roger Eaton, Director of Marketing, Yamaha's Band & Orchestral Division (Bachelor of Music, '78). "That Yamaha is truly the number one choice of college bands across the country is a testament to our more than twenty years of product research."
