Dave Weckl Wows the Crowds
BUENA PARK, Calif. Yamaha Drum artist Dave Weckl educated and entertained drum enthusiasts around the country during a two week drum clinic tour from May 14 - 25 and sponsored by local music shops.
His widely successful eight-state tour drew energetic crowds with his combination of one-of-a-kind teaching methods and dazzling performances. The tour was highlighted by a performance at the State Theatre of Modesto in Modesto, California, sponsored by Skip's Music.
"I've been to a lot of drum clinics, but this was the best one I've been part of," said Shawna Von Behren, Yamaha district manager. "Skip Maggiora at Skip's Music did a fabulous job running the event. He didn't charge a dime and he reserved the first two rows for his drum studio students."
Weckl won a Grammy with jazz great Chick Corea and has also performed with other major stars, including Diana Ross, Madonna, Barry Manilow, Simon & Garfunkel and Robert Plant. Modern Drummer magazine recently inducted him into its Hall of Fame and named him "one of the 25 best drummers of all time."
"Dave did a great job had had a fabulous time," said Von Behren. "He marveled at the acoustics of the venue and his clinic kept everyone on the edge of their seats. One person told me 'I learned more from that two hour clinic than all of my drum lessons put together. He's a great teacher.'"
