Musical Family Takes Leap Of Faith With Yamaha Clavinova

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The Hinde Family of Port Byron, Illinois desperately wanted a top model Clavinova CVP piano for their growing family of music makers. For many years they searched high and low for an affordably-priced used Clavinova, but never felt comfortable making a commitment to purchase a piano from another dealer when they had close ties with their local retailer, Foster Family Music Center.

"The Clavinova CVP was something that the family just couldn't afford, even though they had a genuine need for one," said Jim Foster, owner, Foster Family Music Center. "The family did what they could to purchase a used Clavinova by searching online auctions, but they were understandably leery because of the unknowns."

"They also have great loyalty to Foster Family Music Center because we support their children's music education – something the family feels very strongly about," continues Foster. "Their kids have been in piano recitals at our hall; their music teacher is a close friend and great supporter of piano education; and their daughter participates in our Clavinova Festival."

A spiritual family, the Hindes prayed for a divine intervention and, this past fall, their prayers were answered when family patriarch, Patrick, was the highest bidder for a Clavinova CVP-208 through a QC (Quad City) Auction Mania program sponsored by local Illinois papers The Dispatch, The Rock Island Argus and The Leader. The Auction Mania program was created to help businesses pay for advertising in exchange for putting products up for bid.

Typically, Foster Family Music Center auctions off a basic model Clavinova that appeals to beginner piano players, but the stars were aligned with the fall 2006 auction, when a more advanced Clavinova CVP 208 became the deal du jour.

"It was really neat how everything just fell together," said Mrs. Amy Hinde. "It was exactly the model we were interested in, and the fact that the piano was coming from Foster Family Music made everything seem right."

But, the Hindes nearly lost the opportunity when Mrs. Hinde originally tossed the Auction Mania ad away and her husband underbid the piano. The auction required a bid valued at half the item's ticket price. As a family on a budget, purchasing such a big-ticket item required a lot of God's guidance, according to Mr. Hinde. Ultimately, according to the family, the auction was a blessing.

"Mr. Hinde told me he had been praying for a very long time for this Clavinova," says Mr. Foster. "We're thrilled that they have finally gotten the perfect piano for their family."

The Hindes are equally thrilled as their eight-year old Clavinova Festival participant, Jurnie Faith, knows "the insides and outsides of the piano."

"She loves to follow the lights on many of the songs," says Mrs. Hinde. "Recently her piano teacher wanted to introduce the song 'The Entertainer,' but Jurnie said she had already learned it with the follow the lights!"

The Clavinova CVP has also become the family's entertainment with two-year old Eli regularly dancing away to his sister's playing. "The rest of our kids can't wait to learn to play," adds Mrs. Hinde.
