The White Sabers Become Newest Drum Corps To Play Yamaha Drums

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha is proud to announce the purchase of all new Yamaha percussion by the White Sabers. The craftsmanship and consistency of Yamaha Drums, along with the proven quality of sound, made the choice an easy one for the White Sabers. The purchase included seven 14" SFZ snares in a Blue Forest finish, four sets of Field Corps sextet tenors and 18", 20", 22", 24", 28" and 32" bass drums, all in matching Blue Forest. The percussion equipment came with new Randall May Stadium Hardware and tube carriers.

When asked about their new drums, Brian Ballard, caption head for the White Sabers, said, "I'm thrilled that we are using Yamaha marching percussion. I like how I don't have to worry about the bottom head tension lugs, thanks to the gravity guards." Ballard added, "There is a huge difference in sound, balance and blend with the horns since we switched to Yamaha. Hands down, Yamaha is the best!"

The White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 1928. Like many other corps of that time, they were under the direct sponsorship of the American Legion. In 1994, after about 14 years of absence from the drum corps world, several former White Sabers members organized an alumni reunion, and interest in performing was revived. In 2005 the White Sabers returned from hiatus as a competitive Class A drum corps. The following year, the corps went on to compete and placed second in their first DCA World Championships in Rochester, N.Y.; this by far was the greatest accomplishment of the corps up to that point.

The White Sabers 2007 Production comprises music from the motion picture "Gladiator." Musical selections include "Fate of the Gods," by Steven Reineke; "Mars: The Bringer of War," by Gustav Holst; and selections from the "Troy" soundtrack by James Horner. Yamaha is honored to welcome the White Sabers to its family of drum corps endorsees.
