Yamaha Artist Denis Matsuev Returns to Carnegie Hall

NEW YORK CITY, New York — Renowned Russian pianist, Yamaha Artist and Tchaikovsky Competition winner Denis Matsuev makes his triumphant return to Carnegie Hall on November 17, 2007, in a recital featuring the works of Schumann, Liszt and Prokofiev. The concert, which will be performed on a Yamaha CFIIIS grand piano, will be recorded by RCA Red Seal/Sony BMG for future release. On the preceding Tuesday, November 13th, the company will issue Mr. Matsuev's new recording of rare piano recital repertoire by Sergei Rachmaninoff, entitled "Unknown Rachmaninoff."

Denis Matsuev's New York recital is part of an extraordinary year that began in September as he opened the Houston Symphony Orchestra's season, playing Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto No. 1" under conductor Hans Graf; later in the season he will tour the U.S. as featured soloist with the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, playing the third piano concertos of both Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev under the direction of Mark Gorenstein.  Mr. Matsuev goes on to perform with Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra in the new Mariinsky Hall in St. Petersburg in June 2008, followed by his July debut at the Ravinia Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Leonard Slatkin.

Denis Matsuev has built on his stunning victory at the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1998 to become a soloist and recitalist in demand by the leading presenters both in the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared in hundreds of recitals at major concert halls throughout the world, including New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Salle Gaveau and Théâtre des Champs Élysée in Paris, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Musikhalle in Hamburg, Musikverein in Vienna, Royal Festival Hall in London, Great Hall of the Conservatoire in Moscow, Great Hall of the Philharmonia in St. Petersburg, La Scala in Milan, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the new Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall in St. Petersburg.

Mr. Matsuev is Artistic Director of two festivals in Russia: Stars on Baikal in Irkutsk and Crescendo Festival in Moscow. In December 2007, his Crescendo Festival will be introduced in Paris in artistic collaboration with conductor Yuri Temirkanov. His other festival performances include the Russian Winter Festival in Moscow, Stars of White Nights in St. Petersburg, the Andrew Lloyd Webber Festival in London, the Auvers-sur-Oise Festival and La Côte-St. André Festival in France, the Chopin Festival in Dushniki, Poland and the Shanghai International Arts Festival.

Denis Matsuev has appeared with the most prestigious Russian orchestras and conductors, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in Kirov (Kirov) and Valery Gergiev; the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and Vladimir Fedoseyev; the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov; the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Spivakov; the Russian National Orchestra and Mikhail Pletnev, and many others. He has also appeared with the Beijing Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (R. Abbado), Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (J. DePreist), Budapest Festival Orchestra (I. Fischer), Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchestra (M. Jansons), Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (V. Fedoseyev), and the Utah Symphony (P.Kogan).

In 2004, BMG Classics released Mr. Matsuev's debut CD, "A Tribute to Horowitz," followed in January 2006 by a disc of Tchaikovsky's "Seasons" coupled with the piano version of Stravinsky's "Petrouchka," and in December 2006 by a recording of the first piano concertos of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich with the legendary St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Yuri Temirkanov. Denis Matsuev's recordings are released worldwide by RCA Red Seal/Sony BMG, for whom he records exclusively.
