Yamaha Clavinova Powers Inspiring New Holiday CD

PEARL, Miss. — According to pianist and music teacher Laura Callahan, she owes the successful completion and release of her new holiday CD, Christmas Praise, The Music of Laura Callahan to the ground-breaking capabilities of the Yamaha Clavinova. Her charming collection of Christmas arrangements was arranged and recorded on the award-winning digital piano.

With her busy schedule as musician, teacher, caregiver to her mother and mom of four, Callahan had difficulty finding the time to sit down and focus on the melodic creations she was eager to bring to life. Thanks to the Clavinova's unique recording and accompaniment features, she can capture her musical ideas on her own schedule, recording sections of her compositions separately, and then compiling them into a finished piece as her schedule permits. "The Clavinova has helped me to incorporate music-making into my demanding lifestyle," Callahan says.

It all began in 2005, when many of Laura's piano students were scheduled to participate in the annual Clavinova Festival hosted by Allen Riley of Mississippi Music, the local Yamaha retailer. The dealer placed a brand new Clavinova in Laura's home so her students could practice on it to prepare for the festival. "After the festival," Laura recalls, "they just left it there."

Grateful to have unlimited access to such an advanced instrument, and with Christmas approaching, she thought, "I'd better make some good use of this before they decide they need to have it back!"

So she began to use the Clavinova to record some of the Christmas music she had made arrangements of over the years, then "dressed up" those arrangements with the Clavinova's extensive voices and effects.

Just before Christmas, 2005, Laura presented CDs of her Christmas music to a few of her church friends as a gift. One of the recipients, fellow church musician David Miller, was so impressed with the recording that he felt it had potential for success on a wider level and worked with Laura to produce and expand the piece, as well as make it available through www.laurapraise.com.

Laura additionally uses the Clavinova in her house of worship, preferring its versatility and ability to connect to her church's sound system, as opposed to the standard acoustic grand. "The Clavinova always sounds terrific because it never needs tuning," she says.

"Yamaha and Mississippi Music have been a huge blessing in my life. I love this Clavinova! It has allowed me to take what has floated around in my head for years and do something creative with it," says Callahan. "My CD would not have taken place without it."
