Yamaha Introduces Redesigned Harmony Director

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, will display its new and improved HD-200 Harmony Director at Winter NAMM 2008. The HD-200 (replacing model HD-100) is a 49-note tuning device for music education that is ideal for use with high school and college level bands and choruses. Harmony Director helps develop a better understanding of how individual notes fit into a chord, and in turn creates better musicians and ensembles.

With a simpler interface than its predecessor, the HD-200 uses one-button touch operations and has an improved tone generator with 10 voices — flute, oboe, clarinet, sax, organ, trumpet, horn, brass, string and piano. The piano tone and metronome now function with an AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) tone generator for acoustic-like sounds, and the improved metronome features include memory sets and quarter triplet subdivision.

The new Figure Sliders allow the user to change the note attack, brilliance and release while teaching students the difference between these important technical components. Additional upgrades include a four step octave slider, optional foot pedal, two easy-to-read backlit LCD displays (one for tone and one for metronome functions) and a touch responsive keyboard that enables it to be used as a piano for accompaniment.

"The introduction of the HD-100 Harmony Director to the US market four years ago was embraced by many educators for its unique ability to teach intonation," said Ted Kuehnert, Marketing Manager. "The introduction of the next generation HD-200 builds on Yamaha's commitment to elevating music education by improving new technologies."

The Yamaha HD-200 is currently available.
