"No question about it: the Yamaha CVP400 Series Clavinova Digital Pianos are the most exciting CVP Series ever," says Jim Levesque, Clavinova Marketing Manager, Yamaha Corporation of America, Piano Division. "For the first time in the history of the digital piano, users can record fully orchestrated performances, with vocals, onto their USB thumb drives. These acoustically stellar performances can then be turned into CDs, using iTunes or Windows Media Player, and then easily shared with friends, in person, on disc or over the Internet. And, for added convenience with fewer external interfaces, the Clavinova CVP400 Series is the first with a built-in LAN port."

On display at Winter NAMM 2008, the instruments in Yamaha's new CVP400 Series (CVP401, CVP403, CVP405, CVP407 and CVP409) offer grand piano realism like never before. With Yamaha's groundbreaking Instrumental Active Field Control (iAFC) technology, the CVP-409/407 models use built-in microphones and speakers to reproduce the complex sonic textures of a grand piano, creating a richly resonant sound that's truly unparalleled. The Natural Wood keyboard on the CVP409/407 reproduces as closely as possible the experience of playing an actual grand piano, including the authentic touch, feel and weight of the keys. Yamaha's famed Graded Hammer 3 (CVP405/403) and Graded Hammer (CVP401) technologies give a remarkably natural piano touch and expressive response.

And, this entire series of Clavinova Digital Pianos looks every bit as beautiful as it sounds. The Clavinova CVP400 Series Digital Pianos radiate with a dignified, commanding presence in a choice of three finishes, depending upon model: the high-class appearance of Polished Ebony or Polished Mahogany or the warm natural wood grain of Dark Rosewood. In addition to the gorgeous finishes, the CVP409 now come with Synthetic Ivory keytops which create a more authentic feel to the keys.

With the USB Audio Recorder feature on the CVP409/407/405/403 models, users can record their own performances, including singing, karaoke or anything else that comes through their Clavinova's sound system, such as, for example, an electric guitar when plugged into the mic input jack. "Then, they can burn a CD or send their music over the Internet to share their creations with others," says Levesque. "And, the Super Articulation Voices (CVP409/407/405) and Mega Voices (CVP409/407/405/403) make a wide range of acoustic and electric instruments playable directly from the keyboard with expressive realism and performance characteristics never before heard in a Clavinova Digital Piano. If you activate the guitar voice, for instance, you'll hear harmonics, fret noise and body tap, just like you would when listening to a live guitarist. Same with brass instrument voices – you'll hear shakes and falls – or saxophone, where you'll hear breath noise. Yamaha designers purposefully created Super Articulation Voices to sound the way real instruments sound — and it all happens naturally and appropriately, just the way you hear these sounds when you're listening to a musician performing live or on a high quality recording."

In addition, the CVP400 Series' Organ Flutes Voices and a realistic textured rotary speaker effect flawlessly reproduce the vintage organ sound heard in Gospel, Blues, Jazz and Rock music.

Enhancements to the Music Finder and Internet Direct Connection (IDC) first introduced in the Clavinova CVP300 Series, now allow CVP400 series users to discover a new world of online music on Yamaha's IDC website. From the extra-large LCD display (in full color on the CVP409/407/405) above the Clavinova CVP400 Series keyboard and the built-in LAN port, players with a high speed Internet connection can add styles to their Clavinova's library or download song files to play immediately on the Clavinova. For a nominal fee, IDC also includes unlimited access to three months of beginner-level lessons, allowing players to take lessons from the comfort of their own homes. And, the enhanced Music Finder+ now includes an expanded library (5,000 recordings and growing), useful performance guides with digital sheet music and more. Helpful on-instrument demos house musical examples, a handy interactive mini-manual, and sound and text demonstrations that allow users to quickly grasp and then use all the CVP400 features.

Auto Accompaniment, Style playback and Voices automatically produce full backing parts, just like an expert band would play, in a full range of genres. Musical arrangements are authentic, full and rich, so players of all levels sound professional while performing and improvising. The CVP400 Series also features an input jack for microphone connection for players who want to sing along with keyboard performance. Better yet, the Vocal Harmony effect (with 60 pre-sets) creates automatic vocal harmony backing parts that are perfectly pitched and matched to the musical style and chords being played.

The Clavinova CVP400 Series digital pianos are unsurpassed in beauty, elegant expressiveness and authentic grand piano sound. Designed with ease of use in mind, one function is allocated to each button so there's no scrolling through multiple menus to operate each feature, allowing for a truly intuitive "one-touch" ease of operation of all the main settings. And, Demos on the instruments house more than simply examples of music: on the CVP400 Series, they serve as a handy, interactive mini-manual and include both sound and text demonstrations to illustrate the instrument's capabilities and features.

The award-winning Yamaha Clavinova is the world's favorite digital piano. It is relied upon by prestigious music schools around the globe, and prominent artists such as opera star Andrea Bocelli, and Yamaha artists GRAMMY®-nominated vocalist Josh Groban, and Isaac Slade of the alternative rock piano band, The Fray.

Since 1983, Yamaha Clavinova Digital Pianos have set the standard for popular, easy-to-enjoy home piano technology. "As we approach the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the Clavinova line in 2008, I can't think of a better way to jumpstart the celebration," says Levesque. The CVP400 Series is, simply put, the culmination of all that's come before—and, as with each new enhancement to Yamaha's award-winning Clavinova line over the past two and a half decades—this series offers an exciting hint of what's to come in the future as well. When I think back to the first Clavinova, the YP40 we introduced in 1983, and then compare it to the instruments in the new CVP400 Series, it's thrilling to imagine where we'll be 25 years from now."
