The Virtual Auditions of the e-Piano Junior Competition At Yamaha Artist Services Inc.

NEW YORK CITY — Young classical pianists met with cutting-edge music technology as they competed in the virtual auditions of the e-Piano Junior Competition 2008. This is the first time virtual auditions from contestants across the world were showcased and judged at the Yamaha Piano Salon in Manhattan. Screenings of the auditions were held on February 14, 15, and 16 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

E Junior Piano Competition
The e-Piano Junior Competiton was inspired by the Minnesota Internation Piano-e-Competition
The Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition presented this special contest to showcase the talent of young pianists across the world, ages 17 and under. 60 contestants were selected from a pool of application CDs and invited to participate in video recording sessions, utilizing Disklavier performance reproducing pianos. Chosen finalists played on Yamaha Disklavier grand pianos and their performances were recorded for future "virtual" viewing by a Screening Jury Panel.

During the three days of virtual auditions, the Screening Jury Panel viewed each contestant's video performance on a large screen display, reproduced and replayed in sync on a Yamaha CFIIIS Disklavier concert grand piano. The Jury will then select 24 contestants who will be invited to come to the U.S. to participate in the final e-Piano Junior Competition, which will be held in Minneapolis/St. Paul at the Sundin Music Hall; Hamline University from July 4 to July 11, 2008.

Along with the Yamaha Piano Salon in New York City, there were six other additional sites hosting the virtual audition screening rounds, including Shanghai, Paris, Moscow, Toronto, Vancouver, and Los Angeles. This exciting opportunity to experience some of the world's finest young musical talent was free and open to the public.

The event took place on the 3rd floor Piano Salon at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc., which is located at 689 Fifth Avenue, New York City (entrance is at 54th Street). Admission was free. For more information, please call (212) 339-9995 x0 or e-mail yasi@yamaha.com.
