Sonny Emory Zones in On Better Drum Technique
BUENA PARK, Calif. Grammy-Award winning drummer Sonny Emory held a special outdoor clinic on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at Zone Music in Cotati, Calif.
Emory, a graduate of Georgia State University with a B.A. in Jazz Performance, has long been committed to education. In addition to teaching applied percussion at his alma mater, he also holds a week-long summer Drumset Camp in Atlanta, his hometown.
Emory is one of the best clinicians around because he takes time to answer questions thoroughly and offer effective tips on technique. The event included performances, demos, an autograph session and product giveaways.
Longtime drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, Emory co-wrote the band's hit "Cruising," heard on the Get On the Bus film score. He also worked on the Lethal Weapon II soundtrack with Eric Clapton and David Sanborn. Emory has also recorded and/or performed with Stanley Clarke, David Sanborn, Bette Midler, Al Jarreau, Paula Abdul, Jean-Luc Ponty and Boz Scaggs.
