Reading Symphony Orchestra Praises Long Term Relationship with Yamaha
![]() The Yamaha S4 grand "carries sound very well, within the full body and texture of a symphonic orchestra," according to RSO executive director Charles Weiser. |
"Our new music director, Andrew Constantine, is the buzz around the city," continues Weiser. Constantine was born in England and made his London debut at the Royal Festival Hall conducting the London Philharmonic. The London Times writes, "The poise and hushed beauty of the London Philharmonic's playing was one of the most remarkable qualities of Constantine's direction. He has an exceptional gift for holding players and listeners on a thread of sound, drawing out the most refined textures."
"We do our holiday 'Nutcracker' series with a local ballet school company," explains Weiser. "We offer family concerts and cross-generational programs on weekends, and music programs for kids in local schools. Many of our subscribers still remember their first exposure to classical music from concerts they attended here. The experience begins with the theater itself: there's a 'wow' factor even before one note is played."
Season offerings include six classical concerts, a New Year's Eve pops concert, and other special events. The 2008-2009 featured soloists will be Elena Urioste, Alon Goldstein, Ilana Davidson, Leon Williams and Richard Troxell, as well as storyteller Jon Spelman, Dr. Mario Livio (senior astrophysicist at the Hubble Telescope Science Institute), Berks Classical Childrens Chorus and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. Dancers Joan Hess and Kirby Ward, along with acclaimed vocalist Jodi Benson, will join the RSO for its first Valentine's Day Pops Evening in 2009.
