World's Leading Young Musical Talent Vie At First-Ever 2008 E-Piano Junior Competition
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Twenty of the world's most gifted young musicians will vie for the grand prize at the first-ever 2008 e-Piano Junior Competition for pianists aged 17 and under. Presented by the esteemed Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, the event will be held July 4th through July 11th, 2008 at Hamline University's Sundin Music Hall in St. Paul, Minn. and at The Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Minn.
Using the latest in music technology, this unique competition, sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America, enables young pianists from around the world to record and transmit their audition performances over the Internet through the use of a Yamaha Disklavier performance reproducing piano. The unique 9' Concert Grand piano, in addition to being a concert-quality acoustic instrument, features a built-in system to record live performances as MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) data. These performances are then recreated on other Disklavier pianos with each note and nuance delivered faithfully, precisely as the pianist originally recorded.
At invitation-only screened auditions held throughout in New York, Vancouver, Moscow, Shanghai, Paris, Toronto and Los Angeles, applicants entered their digitally videotaped and recorded MIDI performances on Yamaha Disklavier pianos. These performances were then judged by a six-member screening panel at Yamaha Artist Services, Inc., in New York.
The extraordinary young pianistshailing from all over the worldwill begin their live performance rounds on Saturday, July 5th, 2008. The competition finals will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2008. At the semi-final round, which will take place on July 9th, nine performers will be critiqued based on their imagination, judgment and overall presentation of their programs. From there, five finalists will be chosen to perform in the final round on July 11th. The grand prize winner will be selected that day, and will receive an award and enjoy the opportunity to perform at the gala concert taking place that evening.
