Percussion Artist John Beck Honored

John Beck receives award
John H. Beck, an illustrious Yamaha percussion artist since 1992 (seen here on the right), accepts a Yamaha concert snare drum and plaque from Chris Manners, Yamaha Band & Orchestral division District Manager. The commemoration and Yamaha award was presented to Mr. Beck in honor of his retirement from the Eastman School of Music, where he was head of the percussion department. He was a member of the United States Marine Band for four years before joining the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as principal percussionist in 1959 and becoming principal timpanist in 1962. Mr. Beck is a past president of the Percussive Arts Society; he was inducted into the PAS Hall of Fame in 1999.
