Yamaha C7 'Perfect Fit' For 'Music on MacDougal'
NEW YORK CITY Powered by a 7' 6" Yamaha C7 Conservatory Collection Grand Piano, The Players Theatre's hot new concert series "Music on MacDougal" recently launched its inaugural season in New York City's Greenwich Village. Serving as a platform for emerging and established musical artists of all genres, Music on MacDougal will feature diverse musical styles, including jazz, contemporary, multi-disciplinary, bluegrass, fusion, rock, world music, hip-hop, experimental and classical.
"'Music on MacDougal' is intended to provide another venue for artists in a city that's dominated by more traditional outlets," says Series Co-creator and Curator Sheryl Lee, who teamed up with Yamaha percussion endorsee and Player's Theatre owner Michael Sgouros to create a new venue at the Off-Broadway space.
Just as importantly, the Series seeks to fulfill a more profound need in New York's music scene. "Since 9/11 the downtown music scene has suffered," Lee notes. "There are bars and comedy clubs, but very little in terms of music. 'Music on MacDougal' provides something for everyone: jazz, multimedia and experimental. We want to bring uptowners downtown."
As the concept for the venue took shape, Lee, an accomplished pianist and chamber musician, knew they required a piano that would stand up to the varied needs and repertoires that the venue would present. So, she turned to Yamaha.
"We had a need for a good quality piano and Yamaha was a perfect fit," she raves. "We're very grateful to James Steeber and everyone at Yamaha."

"Music on MacDougal" recently presented "Hong Kong Explodes," a multimedia performance that featured Hong Kong music's "enfant terrible," Bloomberg Emerging artist award-winning composer Samson Young, who joined forces with two of Hong Kong's most sought-after video artists Christopher Lau and Adrian Yeung, to turn Bach's keyboard masterpiece Two Part Invention into an evening of "explosive electric counterpoint."
