AUSTIN, Texas The entire Yamaha Corporation of America Percussion and Drum team, including representatives of the Band & Orchestral (B & O) and Pro Audio & Combo (PAC) divisions, attended PASIC, the annual Percussive Arts Society International Conference.
Over 25 staff members were on hand, including colleagues from Yamaha Canada and Yamaha Japan.
On Wednesday, setup day, the University of Kentucky Chamber Percussion Group debuted the YM-6100 Keiko Abe Marimba in the United States. From Thursday to Saturday, when the booths opened, Yamaha sponsored artist clinics and performances.
Many drummers stopped by Yamaha's booths. B & O displayed its concert percussion, featuring the new Berlin Symphonic Series snare drums, the new marimba and the YV-1605 Intermediate Vibe. B & O also highlighted its marching gear, including 30 new snare drums.
PAC's display of acoustic drum sets included the top-of-the-line PHX, along with other kits and snare drums. PAC's display of electronic drum sets, including the DTXTREME III, the DTXPRESS IV and the DTXPLORER attracted a steady stream of traffic and especially appealed to youngsters.
Yamaha Drum Artists who performed included Roy Haynes, Ed Soph, Erik Smith, Ari Hoenig, Gorden Campbell and Dafnis Prieto.
At the annual PAS Hall of Fame banquet, Yamaha Artists Dennis DeLucia and Vicki Petersen Jenks received an industry award and an education award, respectively.
Planning has already begun for Yamaha's participation at next year's PASIC, which will be held in Indianapolis.
