Olga Kern's outstanding performance at the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition made her the first woman in 30 years to win the Gold Medal at this prestigious event.
Ms. Kern has performed in many of the world's most important venues, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory; Symphony Hall in Osaka; La Scala in Milan; the Salle Cortot in Paris; and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She has appeared as a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater, Moscow Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Symphony, Russian National Orchestra, China Symphony, Belgrade Philharmonic, Warsaw National Philharmonic, La Scala Philharmonic, Torino Symphony and Cape Town Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Kern has also performed at Carnegie's Zankel Hall and Isaac Stern Auditorium, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, as well as with the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei Orchestra of Taiwan.
The recipient of an honorary scholarship from the President of Russia, she is also a member of Russia's International Academy of Arts. A successful recording artist, Ms. Kern's performances can be heard on several CDs including Chopin: Piano Concerto No.1; Rachmaninoff Transcriptions, Corelli Variations andTchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1. She lives in Moscow with her son Vladislav and records exclusively with harmonia mundi USA.
