Dedication to Excellence: The Hawthorne Caballeros & Yamaha Expand Relationship
BUENA PARK, Calif. Yamaha, Band and Orchestral division, announces the expansion of its relationship with The Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, one of the oldest and the most decorated summer drum and bugle corps in the Drum Corps Associates.
Located in Hawthorne, N.J., The Caballeros have been using Yamaha brass instruments since 2004. In 2008, the corps purchased an all new battery, including SFZ snare drums, field-corps multi-toms and bass drums in a black forest finish along with carriers and stadium hardware. The purchase made The Hawthorne Caballeros an all-Yamaha corps.
"The Caballeros have come to expect a high level of service and support from Yamaha," said Troy Wollwage, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Percussion. "After using other brands, the corps decided to fully become a complete Yamaha corps. We're thrilled to name another DCA corps as a Yamaha performing ensemble."
Founded in 1946 by James J. Costello, Jr., The Hawthorne Caballeros have amassed a remarkable host of records in over 60 years of competition, including winning the National Dream Contest 17 times and the New Jersey State American Legion Title 43 times. They have completed five undefeated seasons, consecutively in 1984 and 1985. Additionally, the corps have been crowned DCA Open Class World Champions nine times, more than any other corps, and won 15 American Legion championships prior to the formation of DCA.
Yamaha Percussion Artist Dennis DeLucia serves as an artistic advisor to the Caballeros. His drumlines have won 16 championship High Percussion titles, including the only Triple Crown in drum corps history in 1981. He is the first percussionist to have been inducted into both the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame and the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame.
"The Hawthorne Caballeros have been dedicated to excellence since our inception in 1946," said Caballeros President Frank Gerris. "Our founder and long-time Director James Costello provided a legacy that we are dedicated to maintain. Therefore, it was no accident that, when we became the first DCA corps to switch to Bb brass in 2004, we selected Yamaha. The return of Dennis DeLucia as an advisor to the corps and the need for new percussion made it a natural choice to rely totally on Yamaha for our brass and percussion battery. I am looking forward to a long relationship between Yamaha and the Caballeros."
Drum corps nationwide have depended on Yamaha for over 20 years. Currently, there are more corps in DCA competition playing on Yamaha marching percussion products that any other brand.
