University Of Texas Student Wins New Yamaha Trombone
BUENA PARK, Calif. Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, is pleased to announce that Adam Hanna, an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), recently won the YSL-882OR Trombone as part of the Larry Wiehe Trombone Competition at the International Trombone Conference, where he was the first prize winner.
Besides his studies at UTA, Adam is an active performer as both a soloist and orchestra musician. He was appointed second trombone in the Sherman Symphony Orchestra in 2006, and serves as substitute trombone in the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra. He began his musical studies in his hometown of Durant, Oklahoma at the age of ten. After just a short amount of time, he became attached to the trombone and decided that it would be his lifelong journey. He has appeared as a soloist with the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Band and also plans to appear as a soloist with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra in its 2009-2010 season.
His primary teachers include Dennis Bubert, David Begnoche and Michael Miles; including additional studies with Vern Kagarice, Paul Compton, Ronald Barron, David Taylor, Jessica Buzzbee, and Elliot Chasanov.
"Winning the competition was like a dream come true. I worked extremely hard, and gave it my all," said Hanna. "I have worked so hard, for so long, and it finally paid off. Now it's time for me to work even harder, and attempt to reach my new goals."
As sponsor of the Trombone Competition, Yamaha gave Adam the choice of any Xeno Tenor Trombone. He chose the YSL-882OR, which was developed with Larry Zalkind, Principal Trombone of the Utah Symphony Orchestra. The open wrap trombone model offers reverse type slides and a balanced symphonic sound with a comfortable playability feature. The balanced response rotor system helps air release evenly into the F-attachment slide, creating a smoother transition from the Bb open horn to the engaged F-attachment.
"I've never played a better trombone," remarked Hannah. "It has a gorgeous tone, and has a very even sound in every register. It also blends seamlessly with any other trombone section sound. I look forward to performing exclusively on the trombone, and I am anxious to let it be heard."
