The Leppard May Be Def, But the Guitarist Is Not
BUENA PARK, Calif. Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell recently stopped by the Guitar Custom Shop at Yamaha Artist Services Hollywood to pick up a new SBG1000, which he will be using on the band's 39 city North American tour with Poison and Cheap Trick this summer. Vivian really liked the sound and look of the SBG, and Yamaha arranged for him to get an SBG2000 to play on tour as well.
The SBG2000 and SBG1000, faithful reproductions of the celebrated SG2000 and SG1000, originally introduced in 1976, are individually hand built by the skilled master luthiers at the famed Yamaha Music Craft in Hamamatsu, Japan, the company's elite workshop.
Both SBG models feature a premium carved maple top over a mahogany body, a 22-fret ebony fretboard over a mahogany neck and an adjustable Tune-O-Matic bridge with stop tail piece. Electronics include two alnico humbucking pickups, a three-position toggle switch, and two volume, two-tone pots with push/push coil taps. The SBG2000 features neck-through construction; the SBG1000 comes with a set neck.
The tour, which kicks off on June 23 in Camden, N.J, promises an unprecedented night for those in attendance. The show will highlight three decades of music from three of rock 'n' roll's greatest bands for a four-hour concert experience that will begin the moment that the doors open. It will feature Bluetooth technology and delivery, text communications prior to and during performances and a host of interactive offerings.
