Yamaha Celebrates 25 Years of Concert and Marching Band Percussion in the United States
Since the launch of Yamaha Percussion instruments in the U.S. in 1984, Yamaha quickly became an industry leader in product development producing a full range of percussion instruments, including student percussion kits, bells, vibraphones, marimbas, timpani, concert bass drums, concert snare drums, concert toms, chimes, glockenspiels, marching percussion instruments, carriers stands, drum covers and various other percussion accessories for all levels of musicians.
The status of Yamaha as a percussion education leader was solidified with its focus on percussion clinics, summer percussion camps through its Sounds of Summer program and support for drum corps and school music programs.
As new advances in materials, sound development and electronics come to the forefront of instrument design, Yamaha continues to invest in the future of percussion. Recently, Yamaha began to develop instruments with the environment in mind. Offering quality sound and increased portability, the lightweight, yet durable 3100 Timpani Series set is the first-of-its-kind to use environment-friendly aluminum bowls. By using the renewable resource of aluminum in the bowls and eliminating the need for fiberglass, Yamaha provides a consistent, high-quality instrument that honors the company's commitment to sound while helping to preserve the environment.
In addition to its many collaborations with drum and bugle corps, Yamaha has a rich history of working closely with the finest collegiate marching bands in the country. Currently, there are more college marching bands depending on Yamaha percussion instruments than any other brand.
"Yamaha percussion instruments are built to the highest standards of artistry, function and durability," adds Wollwage. "To see them in the hands of America's most elite music groups is the ultimate embodiment of that philosophy, and we know that all the musicians taking part in these ensembles will receive the top notch quality and dependability of the Yamaha brand."
To commemorate the 25th anniversary, Yamaha will launch a website later this year celebrating the rich heritage of Yamaha Percussion. A dedicatory 25th anniversary banner can currently be seen all over the country at national percussion events, parades, trade shows and the popular Sounds of Summer camps. Furthermore, Yamaha is highlighting the top 25 moments in Yamaha Percussion on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/yamahapercussion and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/yamahaperc.
