Hot Vibes: Mike Mainieri Tour and Record Update

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Yamaha Vibraphone artist Mike Mainieri is keeping busy as usual. His group L'Image (Mainieri, vibes; Warren Bernhardt, keyboards; David Spinozza, guitar; Tony Levin, bass and Chapman stick; Steve Gadd, drums) has reunited for a Japanese tour September 5-12 to promote their new CD, L'Image 2.0. Their return to New York will land them at Iridium Jazz Club from September 24-27. Their last stint at the Iridium turned away hundreds of fans.

Mainieri has also just released a new title on his record label, NYC Records. He has teamed up with popular Dutch guitarist, Marnix Busstra on the new CD entitled "Twelve Pieces." NYC Records's next release will be an album Mainieri recorded with the late alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano and bassist Dieter Ilg, which is due out next year.

Amid his busy schedule, Mike Mainieri and Steps Ahead have been invited to Lincoln Center's 70th birthday season. They will be performing with an all-star band in March of 2010, sharing the bill with the Yellow Jackets. Stay tuned for line-up and exact date. Mike will also be releasing a new album with his Scandinavian band, Mike Maineri and Northern Lights, with a tour to follow.
