Yamaha Celebrates Another Strong Showing At 2009 DCI Championships
BUENA PARK, Calif.Marching entirely with Yamaha
brass and percussion, the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps placed
second at the 2009 Drum Corps International World Championships in
Indianapolis with a score of 97.50, capping another strong showing for groups playing
Yamaha instruments.
This is the first time the group has medaled in its
20-year history. In addition, Matt Harloff and the Carolina Crown brass staff took home the Jim Ott
best brass performance award for the highest brass score during the week. Carolina Crown is now the third drum corps playing Yamaha to win this award in the
last 10 years.
Four all-Yamaha groups and one group playing Yamaha brass instruments finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. The Holy Name Cadets had a score of 97.20, The Cavaliers scored 96.15; The Santa Clara Vanguard scored 95.65 and The Bluecoats scored 93.15. Other Yamaha groups included The Colts, The Crossmen and The Madison Scouts, who finished their years in semifinals competition.

"These successes verify the importance of a winning combination - the finest talent and the highest quality instruments."
From its inception in 1972, DCI has developed into a powerful youth activity with numerous influences on the world's drum and bugle corps, marching bands, and related activities. Since then, drum corps using Yamaha products have won 14 DCI Championships, 12 High Percussion Awards and five High Brass Awards.
