NEW YORK CITY—MTV turned New York City inside out for the 2009 Video Music Awards, and two Yamaha pianos graced the stage for two very special performances.

Yamaha Corporate Artist Affairs, Inc. sent a white DC3A piano for a memorable, over-the-top performance by the international pop phenom Lady Gaga, who took home three moonmen, including the coveted Best New Artist. YCAA also sent a black C3S, which was covered with images of New York City, for a performance by Yamaha artist Alicia Keys. Keys joined Jay-Z on stage to deliver one of the rapper's new singles "Empire State of Mind" from his newly-released album The Blueprint 3.
