ArtsWest School for the Performing and Visual Arts Adds 35 Yamaha Upright, Digital And Grand Pianos to Its Exemplary Program

EAGLE, Id.—The ArtsWest School for the Performing and Visual Arts has added 35 Yamaha upright, digital and grand pianos to its already impressive line-up of student offerings. The private arts school, which attracts students from around the world, offers all of the required academic courses to maintain accreditation, but students in grades 6 - 12 are drawn to it for its strong music and performing arts program. Students can devote up to four hours each school day to study dance, drama, music, visual arts, creative writing and media.

Last year, ArtsWest moved into a new, 15,000 square foot building on State Street and this year, will enjoy a new 10,000 square foot performing arts center. The new pianos will be used in all aspects of the jazz, contemporary, and classical studies areas including the teaching of master classes. They will also take center stage during performances at a variety of musical events.

The school is modeled from the prestigious Walnut Hill School in the Boston area and is inspired by the Performing Arts School in New York City (featured in the movie "Fame"). ArtsWest also employs the Harkness teaching method best known for its use at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.

Caleb Chung, recently listed by Fortune magazine as one of the top 24 innovators in the country, is the new chairman of the board of the school and a significant investor. "We have been looking at some of the best examples of pre-college and arts education in the United States and are, step-by-step, implementing them in our backyard. Adding the Yamaha pianos to the mix just makes our programs that much better."
