Yamaha Artist Lifetime Achievement in Education Awards and New Products Highlight PASIC 2012

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Celebrating 26 years as member and corporate sponsor of the Percussive Arts Society, Yamaha rolled out exciting new gear and held well-attended events at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) 2012, an annual event celebrating the promotion of percussion education, research, performance and appreciation.
The event also marked the start of 125th anniversary celebrations for Yamaha and the 45th anniversary of Yamaha Drums. Yamaha Drum Artist David Garibaldi and Yamaha Percussion Artist Emil Richards received the 2012 Yamaha Lifetime Achievement Award in Education for their unique contributions to music education, distinguished virtuosity and influence in the music industry. A longstanding member of the influential funk-jazz combo Tower of Power since 1970, Garibaldi is a clinician, columnist and author who is celebrating 30 years as a Yamaha Artist. Richards, in his 15th year as a Yamaha Artist, has performed with the top artists in the 20th century, including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, George Harrison, Frank Zappa and Quincy Jones. He has contributed to hundreds of film scores and donated a large collection of instruments to the Percussive Arts Society Museum.

New products introduced at PASIC included the DTX450K and the DTX400K electronic drum sets, along with the DTX-M12 multi pad, the HexRackII, Custom Marching drums, the Club Custom drum set and a PHX drum kit, as well as a wide range of marimbas, vibes, xylophones and bells.
In all, 31 Yamaha Artists performed or conducted at concerts and clinics, including Cliff Almond, Tom Brechtlein, Ndugu Chancler, Steve Gadd, David Garibaldi, Ari Hoenig, Marko Marcinko, Pedrito Martinez, Joe McCarthy, David Stanoch and Mark Walker, in addition to Yamaha electric drum artist Bob Terry. Also, 18 Yamaha Percussion Artists performed or held sessions, including Thad Anderson, John H. Beck, Nathan Daughtrey, Chris Davis, Brad Dutz, Dave Gerhart, Jeff Grant, John Lane, Brad Meyer, Matt Savage, Andrew Spencer, Ben Toth, Brian West and Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic. Yamaha International Percussion Artists in attendance included: Jacques Hostettler, Nicholas Ormrod, Nicolas Suter and Nick Papador. David Black received the Percussive Arts Society’s President’s Industry Award.
