Yamaha Custom Z Saxophones Celebrate 10th Anniversary With Redesign

The Yamaha YAS-82ZII & The Yamaha YTS-82ZII

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America Band & Orchestral Division will debut the YAS-82ZII and YTS-82ZII Custom Z saxophones at the 2013 NAMM Show. The new Custom Z alto and tenor saxophones, ideal for concert band, solo jazz performance, jazz band and a wide range of solo and ensemble settings, feature materials and craftsmanship of the highest quality with the most up-to-date technology. Available in multiple finish options, these models replace the YAS-82Z and YTS-82Z.

The new Custom Zs are targeted towards school-aged, collegiate and professional saxophonists who play in a solo or ensemble setting. Yamaha anticipates high demand – as the current models (both alto and tenor) have been top sellers in the pro/Custom category since their debut in 2003.

"On the 10th Anniversary of their introduction, the Custom Z saxophones have been reexamined from neck to bell," says Roger Eaton, Marketing Director, Yamaha Band & Orchestral Division. “They offer the ultimate combination of expressiveness, response and control while staying true to their free-spirited origins.”

These new saxophones are now equipped with a one-piece bell. The addition of the esteemed V1 neck brings impeccable intonation and enhanced flexibility. Other features include new engraving and an improved B-C# connection. Since the Custom Z was developed in 2003, the technology, craftsmanship and specifications of the Custom Z series has continued to improve to fulfill the needs of the highest level musicians.

"The Custom Z saxophones are now equipped with the well-regarded V1 neck to create the optimal balance of response and control," says Brian Petterson, Wind Instrument Assistant Marketing Manager. "Also new is the one-piece bell that provides increased resonance, beautiful engraving updates and a newly redesigned B-C# connection that allows for more precise key adjustments."

Slated for shipping in March 2013, the YAS-82ZII carries an MSRP of $5,626.00. The YTS-82ZII carries an MSRP of $6,550.00.
