Bösendorfer Features Opus No. 50,000 Grand at 2014 NAMM Show in Celebration of Its 185th Anniversary and 50,000th Piano

ANAHEIM – Bösendorfer, the oldest premium piano manufacturer in the world, is displaying its majestic Opus No. 50,000 art case grand piano in the Yamaha/Bösendorfer Premium Piano Room at the Anaheim Marriott at the 2014 NAMM Show.

The 50,000th piano the company has produced in its illustrious history, this finely crafted handmade instrument was recently unveiled during a grand ceremony at the Wiener Musikverein in Vienna celebrating the company’s 185th anniversary.

Inspired by neo-classical instruments built for the 1867 World Fair in Paris, the Opus No. 50,000 is based on Bösendorfer’s classic Model 225 grand. This semi-concert grand features the legendary instrument maker’s unique signature sound with an abundance of tonal colors–from delicate pianissimo to bold fortissimo. Gold is a fundamental element of the piano’s design, as evidenced in the placement of 24-carat gold-plated female figures (or caryatides) on the front of the instrument. In addition, the cabinet has many gold leaf moldings and the piano frame is completely covered in gleaming gold leaf that was applied by hand.

Among the unique Bösendorfer features on the Model 225 grand piano implemented in the Opus No. 50,000 is the addition of four more bass notes, to the sub contra F, that extend the piano’s range and create additional harmonic resonances for an orchestral-like spectrum of sound.

Exhibiting Bösendorfer’s proud tradition of superior piano cabinetry work, the piano boasts a variety of four veneers: burled French walnut, French walnut, pear wood and maple. On the treble side of the instrument is found a beautiful marquetry inlay of a harp design. This and the specially designed 24-carat gold plated commemorative Opus No. 50,000 plate inserted into the key block are exclusive to this piano model.

The Opus No. 50,000 was introduced to the world on October 22, 2013, during a star-studded gala concert featuring world-renowned pianists Valentina Lisitsa, Paul Badura-Skoda, Maria Mazo, Carlo Grante, Jan Jiracek von Arnim, tenor Daniel Serafin, Marialy Pacheco and the Janoska Ensemble.
