Yamaha YSP-5600 Sound Bar and TransAcoustic Guitar Each Win Popular Science '2016 Best of What's New' Award

BUENA PARK, Calif. (October 19, 2016) — Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) announced that Popular Science has named the company's YSP-5600 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound bar and the TransAcoustic Guitar 2016 Best of What's New Award winners. The awards validate the strong dedication Yamaha puts toward the reproduction of authentic sound through innovation and craftsmanship.

Each year, the magazine's editors review thousands of products in search of the top 100 tech innovations of the year — breakthrough products and technologies that represent a significant leap in their categories. The Best of What's New winners are included in the November/December issue of Popular Science, which has been the most widely read issue of the year since the debut of Best of What's New in 1988. Awards are presented to new products and technologies in 11 categories including: automotive, aviation, computing, engineering, gadgets, entertainment, security, software, home, health and recreation.

The Yamaha YSP-5600 is the world's first sound bar to feature Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, object-based three-dimensional sound technologies that place sound anywhere in the room, even overhead, to bring entertainment alive all around the audience. The innovative sound bar is also equipped with MusicCast wireless multiroom audio technology, which gives users the ability to effortlessly stream music over a home's Wi-Fi network from mobile devices and computers, as well as from services such as Pandora®, Spotify Connect, Napster® (formerly Rhapsody) and SiriusXM Internet Radio using a simple, intuitive app.

The Yamaha TransAcoustic guitar features an entirely new concept in acoustic guitar technology in the form of an actuator – a little metal device hidden inside the guitar. When played, the instrument's strings cause the actuator to vibrate, which is then conveyed to the guitar body and the air around the guitar. This creates authentic reverb and chorus effects without needing any external amplification or effects.

"The Popular Science Best of What's New Award is among the most respected and affirming accolades in the world, and we're grateful that the editors of this highly-respected publication have selected two of our products this year," said Roger Eaton, chief marketing director, Yamaha Corporation of America. "The Yamaha YSP-5600 broke new ground in sound bar design for its immersive sound projector audio capabilities, while the TransAcoustic guitar technology delivers an expansive and rich playing experience like no other. We are honored by this recognition."

"The Best of What's New awards honor the innovations that shape the future" said Kevin Gray, executive editor, Popular Science. From life-saving technology to incredible space engineering to gadgets that are just breathtakingly cool, this is the best of what's new.
