[RX-A8A/A6A/A4A] What kind of equalizer is the YPAO: Low Frequency?

Last Update: 10/4/2021

Target products: RX-A8A, RX-A6A, RX-A4A

The YPAO automatic room calibration system identifies undesired room resonances through the Low Frequency Mode function. The accurately identified frequencies are set with default indicator settings for Q and Level.
These indications are used as placeholders for manual adjustment while listening to music.

To fine tune the Low Frequency Modes, copy the identified results to the manual editing screen. While listening to music, adjust the gain of the offending frequencies (HINT: Usually decreasing the Gain will work better).

Decreasing the gain of each identified low frequency reduces the amount of acoustic energy the speakers will inject into the room at those frequencies. Continue reducing gain of these frequency until clearer and articulate bass is achieved.
Once the gain is adjusted for best results, adjust the Q of each identified frequency. Q is the width of the filter and controls how many frequencies on either side of the identified frequency are affected by the calibrations.

This Low Frequency Mode can be especially useful for rooms will highly reflective parallel wall or ceiling surfaces where large low frequency resonances are most likely to occur and reduce the bass clarity and detail of the content being played.
