Yamaha PSR-I500 Digital Workstation Brings the Joys of Authentic Indian Music to Life

BUENA PARK, Calif. (May 18, 2020)Yamaha today introduced the PSR-I500, a portable keyboard packed with authentic Indian Styles and Voices from every corner of India.
The PSR-I500 is the first of its kind to be made available in the United States and is manufactured in India by Yamaha Music India.
The powerful portable keyboard offers musicians an immersive playing experience, thanks to 801 Voices including 40 Indian instruments such as Sitar, Bansuri, Santoor, Harmonium and Shehnai. Also included are newly sampled Voices based on requests made to Yamaha by famous Indian music producers. In addition to the extensive collection of preset instruments, musicians can also create their own unique sounds with the "Quick Sampling" feature. With this function, the PSR-I500 can vary the pitch of user-sampled sounds to match the keys played.
The PSR-I500 includes 282 types of auto-accompaniment Styles including 50 Indian-inspired Styles. As players strike the chords, automatically created basslines, rhythm tracks and other styles of accompaniment play along.
Musicians can learn the fundamentals of Indian Classical music and Bollywood styles through the keyboard's built-in Tabla/Mridangam & Tanpura function called "Riyaz." This feature gives Indian music-lovers the ability to learn songs and traditional Indian Raga scales, practice to traditional Indian rhythms, or use the instrument for backing rhythm. The keyboard also features 30 different patterns of Taals (Indian rhythms) that immerse users in the rich, classical sounds of India.
To make playing interactive, the PSR-I500 offers a song lesson feature that allows musicians to play their favorite Indian songs without a band. Users can download MIDI song files from an extensive library on Yamaha MusicSoft. Selected songs appear as notes on the instrument's screen so players can jam along to their favorites.
"The PSR-I500 is attractive to musicians wanting to play traditional and contemporary Indian music, and its Voices and Styles also lend themselves to those wanting to blend Indian musical flavors with hip hop or electronic dance music," said Ben Harrison, marketing manager, Digital Piano & Portable Keyboard, Yamaha. "The PSR-I500 is affordable and rich in textures and sounds, giving players an enormous amount of creative flexibility."
Additional features of the PSR-I500 include:
  • Professional-quality Digital Signal Processing effects that add variety to players' sounds.
  • Registration Memory that allows users to recall stored settings including Voices, Styles and effects with the push of a button.
  • Dual voice that allows players to play two instruments together.
  • Touch response that perfectly captures the player's expression.
  • Powerful amplifiers with bass reflex 6-watt speakers.
