Store Type

Decide the [Store Type] setting based on whether the customers/guests for which the music is intended are normally standing or seated. Typically, speakers for in-store music are installed in the ceiling or high on a wall. That means the music sounds louder when standing than seated, because the listener is closer to the speakers.

Examples:
Seated: Restaurants, cafes, lounges, etc.
Standing: Apparel shops, museums, lobbies, etc.

Store Atmosphere

Decide the [Store Atmosphere] setting based on how loud the background noise typically is in the store. Background noise includes the voices of customers/guests and employees, sounds from the kitchen or equipment, and so on. Collectively, these sounds are referred to as background noise. It serves as an important indicator for determining how many speakers are required for delivering music at an optimal volume.

For noisy store spaces, Yamaha recommends installing more speakers and reducing the volume of each speaker. That allows guests to enjoy the lively environment without feeling that the music is too obtrusive.

Music Volume

The [Music Volume] setting determines the appropriate volume for playing music in the given store atmosphere. To have customers/guests actively listen to the music, choose [Higher]. To play music at a volume that does not interfere with their conversations, choose [Normal].

Speaker Installation

The [Speaker Installation] setting is based on the type of speakers installed in the store. This setting requires taking into consideration the interior design, limitations of the installation site, and other factors. There are mainly two types of speakers, either [In-Ceiling] speakers or [Surface-Mount] speakers. In general, [In-Ceiling] speakers are used to make the presence of speakers less noticeable and [Surface-Mount] speakers are used for sites with no ceiling panels or to make the speakers a more prominent part of the interior design. We recommend using [Surface-Mount] speakers for stores with low ceilings. If difficult to decide, select [Either].

Music Quality

The [Music Quality] setting will help determine the optimal speaker model for the given sound quality. [Platinum] ensures guests can enjoy music with the richest low-frequency range and sense of realism, which will elevate the store atmosphere to a higher level. [Gold] offers the most cost-effective solution for achieving a high quality background music space. [Silver] provides the simplest system.

Store Size

The [Store Size] setting is an estimate of the room size. Valid [Size] setting values are from 5 m to 20 m (16.43 ft - 65.64 ft) and [Height] setting values from 2.2 m to 5 m (7.22 ft - 16.43 ft).

Speakers Recommended for You

This shows two speaker model configurations ([Best] or [Good]) recommended by Yamaha based on the information entered in the previous step. The [Best] recommendation provides more power and superior characteristics for creating a higher quality music space.

This shows a layout of the speaker system selected in the previous step. The layout configuration is different for [In-Ceiling] and [Surface-Mount] configurations. The white circles show the coverage area of each main speaker. As a general guideline, music can be delivered as intended if customers/guests are located within those circles.

(Note: The following only applies to subwoofers.)
For [In-ceiling] configurations, locate one subwoofer in the center of four main speakers. For [Surface-mount] configurations, install the subwoofers in the corners of the room. If multiple subwoofers are indicated, disperse them throughout the room.

Best-Suited Amplifier

This setting indicates the amplifier model required for adequately delivering music through the selected main and subwoofer speakers. The number of amplifiers required is indicated in the next step. Normally, separate amplifiers are provided for the main speakers and subwoofers.
