The YSL-823GD offers particularly secure slotting in the low register with the F attachment engaged and in the upper register above high B-flat. It provides a level of resistance that supports easy double tonguing and natural slurs, with an even balance of power and lightness.

Because the detachable bell joint concentrates some additional mass at the cut point, the instrument may initially feel slightly front-heavy. One advantage of the lever being positioned opposite to a conventional layout is that it allows the left hand to grip the instrument in a way that compensates for this forward weight. Since the instrument is already designed to be very lightweight, most players should adapt quickly.

The YSL-823GD offers especially clear pitch centers, and together with Yamaha’s characteristic intonation stability, this tends to reduce missed notes overall.

Its controllability from the high register to the low register, and from pianissimo to fortissimo, also makes it an approachable instrument for less experienced players.

Two-piece Gold Brass Bell

This Custom model features a thin-wall, two-piece gold brass bell which provides light resistance and a warm, broad tone.

Detachable Bell Design

The detachable bell design offers easier transport, While the additional weight of the bell-attachment screw components contribute to a more cohesive tone and improved projection.

Double Ball Bearings and a Newly Designed Lever

A double ball-bearing linkage between the rotary valve and lever enables smooth, reliable operation of the F-attachment lever. The lever itself features a simple, ergonomic shape that fits the hand comfortably.

Main and F Tuning Slide Reinforcement Rings Removed

The outer-tube reinforcement rings on the main and F tuning slides have been removed. This weight reduction quickens the instrument’s response.

Reduced Slide Bracing and a Thin-wall Leadpipe

To enable more agile slide work, weight has been reduced by removing the outer-slide reinforcement tube and the L-shaped reinforcement at the slide joint, and by slimming the outer-slide brace. A newly designed thin-wall leadpipe is another key element in achieving a light, responsive playing feel.

Phosphor Bronze Rotary Valve Cap

Phosphor bronze is used for the rotary valve cap to achieve the optimum balance of tone and playing feel with the detachable bell design.
