Here’s a PA system for DJ events.

A DJ mixer, a playback device (such as an iPod), and two MC microphones will be used at this event. A 10-channel analog mixer MG10XU, DXR12 powered speakers and DXS15 subwoofers will be used with the PA system.

1. Equipment Positioning & Connections

The placement and connection of the mixer and speakers are shown below:

(1) Place the mixer in a secure location, ideally from where the entire floor can be seen.

(2) Place the main speakers on stands, and raise them a little above the ears of the audeience. Place the subwoofers on the floor.

(3) Prepare the AC power cords for the mixer and powered speakers. Not all connections have been made yet, so do not turn the power on at this point.

(4) Connect the devices which are used to play the music (such as a CD player , a turntable or a personal computer) to the DJ mixer.

(5) Connect the DJ mixer outputs to the MG10XU mixer inputs. The connection cables depend on the type of connectors used on the DJ mixer.

- In case the DJ mixer outputs use XLR connectors :

Connect XLR cables from the master outputs of the DJ mixer, then connect these cables to the MG10XU XLR inputs for channel 3/4. Be sure to set the pad switch on these inputs to avoid overload or distortion.

- In case the DJ mixer outputs use RCA type connectors :

Connect an RCA cable to the master output of the DJ mixer, then connect this cable to the MG10XU RCA input of channel 5/6.

(6) Connect the microphones. Connect the two microphones to channels 1 and 2 of MG10XU with XLR cables.

(7) Connect a playback device such as an iPod to channel 7/8 of the mixer with an RCA cable.

(8) Connect the STEREO OUT of MG10XU and "1 MIC/LINE" of DXR12 with XLR cable.

(9) Connect the THRU of DXR12 and INPUT of DXS15 with XLR cable.

2. Turn the power on

(1) Set the mixer's GAIN, fader, and the volume of the powered speakers to minimum level.

(2) When turning the power on, first turn the mixer power on then the powered speakers, in order to avoid unexpected noise . Note: When turning the power off, first turn the powered speakers off and then the mixer.

(1) Adjust the level of the main DXR12 powered speakers. Set the DXR12 MIC/LINE input switch to "LINE." Set LEVEL to 12 o'clock position. Set the HPF (high-pass filter) switches to match the settings of the LPF (low-pass filter) switches on the DXS15 subwoofer. (for example set both to 120Hz).

(2) Adjust the level of the DXS15 subwoofer. Set the LPF (low-pass filter) switches on the DXS15 to match the settings of the HPF (high-pass filter) switches on the DXR12.

<Note> This is a temporary volume setting for the powered speakers. Readjust the volume later as needed to a suitable level.

(3) Turn the STEREO channel knob to the ▲ (left-facing triangle) position.

(4) DJ mixers are line-level devices with high output levels. If you input the signal from a DJ mixer at MIC settings, the levels may overload. Press the PAD switch on channel 3/4 to lower the input level.

(5) Adjust the GAIN. Adjust the GAIN so that the PEAK indicator above the LEVEL knob does not light up. If the PEAK indicator lights up even with the PAD button depressed and GAIN set to the minimum position, lower the volume on the DJ mixer.

<Note> As the input GAIN cannot be adjusted when connecting a DJ mixer to channel 5/6 (which is a stereo channel), try outputting some audio from the DJ mixer. If the sound is distorted, lower the output of the DJ mixer. Raise the level if it seems quiet.

(6) Turn the knob on channel 3/4 to the ▲ (left-facing triangle) position. (If the DJ mixer is connected to channel 5/6, operate that channel.)

(7) DJ mixers output in stereo. Turn PAN for channel 3 to the left and PAN for channel 4 to the right in order to produce a stereo image. (You do not need to do anything when using channel 5/6, as its PAN is already set to the left and right.)

When you finish the settings for the DJ mixer, next set the volume levels for the MC microphone and iPod.
